Precision Ag in the South East (SA)
Do you have an interest in or members in your farming system group that want to learn about PA tools and technologies to make their farm businesses sustainable and profitable? If you answered 'YES' then contact SPAA Precision Agriculture Australia at nicole@spaa.com.au and register your interest. We've been successful in a Caring for our Country grant to promote the adoption of PA in the SE region.
Precision Viticulture in the Limestone Coast Wine Region
SPAA has successfully been awarded a grant to pilot a Precision Viticulture Grower Group activity. Funded by the SE NRM board, the activity will see four workshop/ crop walks exposing viticulturalists to the use of precision agricultural tools in vineyards. Such tools include; EM38, ground penetrating radar, aerial imagery, yield mapping and more. We will tie all the data layers together post harvest to ensure you get the most of the information collected into a useable format. PLUS one luck grower will have a chance to win $2000 worth of PV services, just by being involved. The prize can be used to subsidise or cover the costs to collect your own PV data, and showcase to the group local application of such tools. Register your interest now with Hans Loder on hloder@wingara.com.au or Nicole Dimos on nicole@spaa.com.au
Training and Demonstration of PA in Practice
Although PA tools have been available to Australian broad acre grain growers for over 10 years and the benefits (economic, environmental and social) have been well documented, it is estimated that less than 10% of AUstralian broad acre grain growers utilise PA 'beyond guidance' in any form. The project has one goal - to increase the level of adoption of PA 'beyond guidance' by broad acre grain growers. The project specifically aims to increase the level of adoption of Variable Rate (VR) by growers involved in the project to 30% by 2013. This goal will be achieved by demonstrating how to use PA tools to growers at a regional level and increasing skills of growers and agronomists in PA to a level where they can then use PA tools in their farming systems to achieve economic, environmental and social benefit. The project will be delivered over 3 years and involve facilitating grower groups, conducting on-farm demonstration trials and delivering training in PA. SPAA will work with farming systems groups (FSGs) across the Southern region who want to increase the level of PA adoption 'beyond guidance' in their region. Through these FSGs; a) 16 PA groups will be facilitated involving an estimated 500 growers and 30 agronomists and consultants b) 30 on-farm demonstration trials will be conducted each year c) PA training courses for growers and advisers will be delivered. For more information or to participate, contact SPAA on 0437 422 000.
