The aims of the crop walks are to
  • Look at the trials and discuss what we are trying to learn from the trials and what the visual observations might be suggesting, especially if there are differences between zones. Where we have soil and tissue test results they will be discussed.
  • Discuss the use of crop sensing and imagery and how that could be applied to post emergent N applications. We will aim to have some crop sensors on hand. We will also talk about the concept of N-rich strips and look at where the facilitator or grower has put out some N-rich strips on a couple different soil types.
  • Learn from growers in the area about what they've learnt from their experiences with PA. What benefits do they see? What equipment have they used? What software have they used? What trials they have done? How they have decided on rates for zones? What layers of info have they used? What are their future plans? Are they trialling any other new technologies that may of interest, i.e. soil moisture probes or liquid systems? Are they tryng to inter-row sow? If so, what has been their success?
